World Teachers’ Day: Teaching profession is noble, not for the indolent

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, has described the teaching profession as noble and not meant for the indolent, urging teachers to uphold diligence and commitment in their duties.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Babajide Agbeyo, on Sunday, Aribasoye congratulated teachers in the state and across the country on the 2025 World Teachers’ Day, commending them for their dedication to nation-building.

He praised teachers for their vital role in moulding lives and shaping society, noting that the builders of today’s world were products of teachers who performed their responsibilities with passion and integrity.

The Speaker, who identified himself as a beneficiary of quality teaching, said his early education laid the foundation for his achievements in life.

“Teaching is a noble profession, and I strongly desire that those in it demonstrate diligence and commitment,” he said. “It should not be a refuge for the indolent or those who report to school sporadically, only to return days later with flimsy excuses.”

Aribasoye urged newly recruited and aspiring teachers to see the profession not merely as an employment opportunity but as a calling to nurture the next generation of leaders.

“It is not just about getting wages or building status,” he added. “Teachers must view their roles as builders, reformers, advocates, and life coaches who shape the character and intellect of society.”

The Speaker commended the leadership of teachers in the state for its cooperation and continuous engagement with government on issues affecting the sector, urging sustained partnership to maintain the quality of education.

He also lauded the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji for its commitment and investment in the education sector, particularly in special schools across the state.

Aribasoye reaffirmed the commitment of the 7th Ekiti Assembly to continue supporting policies and legislation that promote teachers’ welfare and strengthen the state’s education system.
