Senate Completes Screening of Tinubu’s Three Ambassadorial Nominees

The Senate has finished screening the three ambassadorial nominees sent by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for confirmation, moving the process closer to formal approval.
Fresh proceedings at the upper chamber showed that the nominees, Kayode Are from Ogun, Aminu Dalhatu from Jigawa and Ayodele Oke from Oyo State, appeared before the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for their individual assessments.
New updates from the panel, led by Senator Sani Bello, indicated that each nominee responded to questions on experience and national service, while Bello disclosed that Ayodele Oke had clarified and cleared all earlier allegations raised against him.
Further action is expected when the committee lays its report before the full Senate for consideration and possible confirmation in the coming days.
Background profiles of the nominees highlight strong security and diplomatic credentials. Oke, a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, once headed the National Intelligence Agency and served as Nigeria’s envoy to the Commonwealth Secretariat in London. Dalhatu previously represented Nigeria in South Korea during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Kayode Are’s career spans intelligence and national security leadership. He served as Director General of the State Security Service from 1999 to 2007, later worked as National Security Adviser in 2010, and earlier held roles in the Directorate of Military Intelligence. He earned a First Class degree in Psychology from the University of Ibadan in 1980.
