Sanwo-Olu Endorses Oyebanji for Second Term, Praises Ekiti Development Strides

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has lauded his Ekiti State counterpart, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, for delivering purposeful and people-centred governance within just three years in office.

Sanwo-Olu made the remark on Wednesday at Iworoko-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, during the commissioning of the Ado-Ekiti Ring Road Phase I, one of the major projects marking Oyebanji’s third anniversary as governor.

“I am impressed with how you are consolidating purposeful governance for Ekiti people,” Sanwo-Olu said. “This is a governance they can see and feel. You have shown that leadership is about service, commitment, and delivery. You have done in three years what others couldn’t achieve in five.”

He urged Ekiti voters to return Oyebanji for a second term in the 2026 governorship election to consolidate the progress achieved so far.

“Ekiti cannot afford to reject you. A second term for Oyebanji means more prosperity, more empowerment for youths and women, more health centres, and more development for all,” he declared.

‘Ekiti Will Become Small London by 2030’

Sanwo-Olu also applauded Oyebanji’s commitment to linking communities through quality roads and streetlights, which he said would boost trade and drive economic growth.

“This is not politics; this is visible achievement,” he said. “If Ekiti sustains this pace, by 2030, the state will become a ‘small London’—a pride of the Southwest and a glory to Nigeria.”

The Lagos Governor added that Oyebanji’s re-election would also help strengthen the continuity of governance in the Southwest and support President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.

Oyebanji Says Ring Road Will Decongest Ado Ekiti, Spur Growth

In his remarks, Governor Oyebanji said the 17.85-kilometre Ring Road project was conceived to decongest Ado-Ekiti metropolis and boost commercial activities in adjoining towns including Iworoko, Afao, Are, Igbemo, and Araromi-Obo.

“This project will open up new economic corridors, create job opportunities, and spur industrial growth,” he said. “With this road, a new Ado-Ekiti town will emerge along the corridor that will drive urban development and increase the state’s prosperity.”

The Governor added that over 103 health centres had been built across the state to improve access to healthcare, especially in rural communities.

Oyebanji Pledges to Break Ekiti’s ‘Continuity Jinx’

Expressing gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for supporting subnational governments, Oyebanji said his administration would continue to deliver impactful projects and called on residents to complete their voter registration to sustain development.

“With your support, I will break the jinx of discontinuity in 2026,” he vowed. “The era of four-year governments being sent packing is over. We must sustain development so that our people can plan for a better future.”

Monarch, Contractor Commend Oyebanji’s Vision

The Managing Director of Craneburg Construction Company, Mr Elie Adem, described the Ado Ring Road as a strategic infrastructure that would enhance regional connectivity and economic integration.

The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, commended Governor Oyebanji’s leadership and economic reforms, describing him as a “leader prepared long ago for service.”

“I am not surprised by your performance,” the monarch said. “You are humble, kind, and visionary. Ekiti is proud of you, and we all pray for your success.”
