PENGASSAN Orders Halt of Crude Supply to Dangote Refinery Over Mass Sacking
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has been thrown into crisis as the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) ordered its members across seven oil and gas firms to cut off crude oil and gas supply to the facility.
The directive followed the dismissal of about 800 workers, which the union claimed were sacked for joining PENGASSAN. It further accused the refinery of flying in illegal Indian expatriates and paying them up to $5,000 monthly, while Nigerian engineers earned only N385,000.
PENGASSAN General Secretary, Lumumba Okugbawa, ordered members in companies including Chevron, Shell Nigeria Gas, Oando, Seplat, Renaissance, TotalEnergies, and the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company to halt supplies.
Union leaders said an emergency NEC meeting would soon decide whether to escalate to a nationwide strike if Dangote fails to reinstate the workers.
The Nigeria Labour Congress is also monitoring the dispute, raising fears of possible fuel shortages if the standoff continues.
