Oyebanji Re-Submits List of Former Commissioners to Ekiti Assembly for Screening

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has forwarded a list of commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as part of efforts to reconstitute the state cabinet.
The list, according to a statement signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Olayinka Oyebode, is made up entirely of the commissioners who served in the State Executive Council before it was dissolved on August 10, 2025.
Oyebode explained that the decision to return the former commissioners was jointly taken by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and other critical stakeholders, who advised the governor to retain the team ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.
The party leaders and stakeholders reportedly argued that bringing in a new set of commissioners barely seven months to the election could create avoidable tension within the party and undermine unity at a crucial time.
He recalled that the party hierarchy, community leaders and other stakeholders had worked closely with the governor’s screening committee in 2023 during the first round of appointments, ensuring a broad-based and inclusive selection process.
The governor, from the outset of his administration, had emphasised that party structures and community leaders would play key roles in identifying persons for public office in order to deepen accountability and strengthen ties between appointees and the people.
