Oyebanji Calls for Unity, Describes APC Governorship Contest as Family Affair

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to close ranks and work together ahead of the 2026 governorship election, saying internal competition within the party should not breed division.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday during an event marking his third anniversary in office, Oyebanji appealed to his supporters to shun provocative remarks and focus on consolidating the unity that has defined the APC’s success in the state.

He said the expression of interest by different aspirants for the party’s governorship ticket was a normal democratic process and should be viewed as a “family matter” that strengthens the party rather than divides it.

“As we move toward the primary election, we must remember that we are one family. There is no victor and no vanquished. Every genuine Ekiti citizen has the right to aspire to serve the people,” the governor said.

“It is not wrong to be ambitious, but power comes only from God. Therefore, nobody has lost, we have all won. I appeal to our members and supporters to avoid abusive songs or insults. Let’s stay united.”

Oyebanji’s remarks came after the APC National Working Committee (NWC) confirmed him as the party’s consensus candidate for the October 27 primary, following the withdrawal of Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo, who was earlier cleared alongside him.

Two other aspirants, Kayode Ojo and Abimbola Olawumi were disqualified during the screening process, leaving Oyebanji unopposed.

The governor described the development as a testament to the party’s internal cohesion and respect for democratic processes, stressing that his administration would continue to promote inclusiveness and unity of purpose.

“I hold no grudge against anyone who showed interest in the governorship race. This is a family contest, and now that it has been resolved, we must all come together to strengthen the APC and ensure victory in 2026,” he said.

Oyebanji, who thanked party leaders and stakeholders for their support, reaffirmed his commitment to governance anchored on transparency, inclusiveness, and grassroots development.
