Over 400 Children Benefit from Free Health Outreach in Ayedun-Ekiti as Ajoni LCDA Partners U.S. Foundation

More than 400 children in Ayedun-Ekiti have benefited from a free health and nutrition outreach organized by Ajoni Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in partnership with the Bountiful Children’s Foundation, USA.

The latest edition of the intervention programme, tagged “End Malnutrition: Nourish and Nurture,” forms part of ongoing efforts to combat child malnutrition, promote early development, and reduce child mortality across communities in Ekiti State.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Chairperson of Ajoni LCDA, Olori Olawumi Olayinka Ogungbemi, has so far reached over 1,000 children in its three phases. The first two editions benefitted about 700 children from various towns and villages in the council area.

The recent outreach, held at the Ajoni LCDA headquarters in Ayedun-Ekiti, featured free medical screenings for infants and young children, distribution of nutrient-rich food supplements, and health education sessions for mothers.

Speaking during the event, Mrs. Bamitale Oladumiye, Country Coordinator of the Bountiful Children’s Foundation, Nigeria, stressed the importance of exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of a child’s life. She and her team also conducted practical sessions on child nutrition and wellness.

Representing the LCDA Chairman, Amb. Prince Michael Ogungbemi, the Vice Chairman of the council reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the welfare of children, widows, and other vulnerable groups. He said the initiative aligns with the council’s vision of ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach all residents.

Beneficiaries and community members expressed gratitude to Prince and Olori Ogungbemi, as well as the Bountiful Children’s Foundation, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.

The “End Malnutrition: Nourish and Nurture” programme has continued to serve as a model for successful collaboration between local government authorities and international development partners, providing access to quality healthcare for underserved children in rural areas.
