Osun 2026: Gov. Adeleke Joins Accord Party

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially joined the Accord Party, confirming days of speculation about his next political move after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party. The governor made the announcement on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, with national and state leaders of the Accord Party in attendance.

Adeleke explained that he had quietly joined the party on November 6 after weeks of consultation with political stakeholders and opinion leaders in Osun. He said the decision was taken to ensure a smooth path for his second-term ambition, stressing that the Accord Party’s ideology aligns closely with his administration’s focus on welfare and inclusive governance.

The governor told the gathering that the people of the state were already aware of the issues that led to his shift, adding that his administration still has unfinished business in the delivery of democratic dividends.

He said the Accord Party offered a suitable platform for continuity, especially as its philosophy of welfarism fits into his government’s approach to workers’ welfare and citizens’ well-being.

Welcoming the party leaders to Government House, Adeleke described Accord as a home he has fully embraced. He assured them that the party now has a united front in Osun as preparations begin for next year’s governorship election.

He emphasised that good governance must remain the central focus as the state moves towards the 2026 poll, noting that his government has delivered gains in infrastructure, social services and general welfare. According to him, Osun people have witnessed improved service delivery since he assumed office.

Adeleke declared the Accord Party as the new vehicle through which he intends to pursue victory across Osun’s three senatorial districts. He urged supporters from Osun West, Osun East and Osun Central to remain united, adding that the “thumb up” symbol of the party should be seen as a call for progress.

The governor listed several communities across the state, saying the message of continuity will resonate from Igbomina to Ijeshaland, Ifeland, Osogbo, Iwoland, Modakeke, Gbongan, Igbajo, Ikire, Ikirun, Ede and other parts of Osun.

He noted that the people voted for change and good governance in 2022 and will again support a second term in 2026. He described Accord as the party that will carry the mandate into another phase of development.

Adeleke then concluded by formally declaring for the Accord Party, saying the move reflects the wishes of stakeholders and the broader expectations of Osun residents who desire sustained progress in the state.
