Oba Ladoja Reveals What Ibadan Wants Tinubu to Deliver Before 2027 -

Oba (Sen) Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja (Arusa 1), the newly crowned 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritise the creation of Ibadan State before 2027, describing it as the collective demand of his people.

Oba Ladoja made the call in his acceptance speech on Friday at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, shortly after receiving the Staff of Office from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, in the presence of dignitaries, traditional rulers, and political leaders.

Speaking in Yoruba, the monarch declared: “My people sent me a message to Mr President. Mr President, they said the creation of Ibadan State is their priority.”

Makinde Hails Peaceful Succession

In his goodwill message, Governor Makinde described Oba Ladoja’s ascension as a historic moment for Ibadanland, adding that the peaceful succession process had become a source of pride for the ancient city.

“It is a great honour to join in celebrating the coronation and presentation of the Staff of Office to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adewolu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The joy and excitement that fill Ibadan today remind us of the importance of upholding our cherished traditions,” the governor said.

He further prayed that Oba Ladoja’s reign would usher in peace, unity and progress not only for Ibadanland but for Oyo State as a whole.

Tinubu, Governors, and Dignitaries Grace Ceremony

President Tinubu, who arrived at Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan, at 1:45 p.m., was among the high-profile guests at the coronation. He was welcomed by Governor Makinde alongside Governors Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Jackson Adeleke (Osun), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo) and several federal lawmakers and traditional rulers before proceeding to Mapo Hall for the historic ceremony.

The coronation of Oba Ladoja, a former Oyo State governor and respected Yoruba leader, is seen as a defining moment for Ibadan’s traditional institution and its long-standing agitation for state creation.
