NASS Explains Why Senator Natasha Cannot Resume Senate Duties Yet

Suspended Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, will not be returning to the red chamber yet, as the National Assembly says her case remains before the Court of Appeal despite her insistence that her six-month suspension has elapsed.
In a letter dated September 4, 2025, and addressed to the senator, the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Yahaya Danzaria, explained that no administrative action could be taken to facilitate her resumption until the appellate court delivers judgment and the Senate formally reviews the suspension.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had earlier written to notify the Clerk of her intention to resume duties on September 4, maintaining that her suspension, which began in February, had ended. But Danzaria emphasized that her suspension took effect from March 6, 2025, and the matter remains sub judice.
The Kogi lawmaker was suspended in March over alleged misconduct and refusal to comply with the Senate’s seating arrangement during plenary.
