Insecurity: President Macron Assures Tinubu Of Stronger France–Nigeria Security Cooperation

France has promised deeper collaboration with Nigeria as the country continues to battle rising security threats, including terrorism in the northern region, President Emmanuel Macron announced on Sunday.
Posting a message on X, Macron revealed that he held a phone conversation with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during which he restated France’s commitment to helping Nigeria tackle widespread insecurity. He said his government would step up its engagement with Nigerian authorities and extend more support to communities affected by violence.
In his message, Macron stressed the need for the international community to increase its involvement, insisting that global partners cannot afford to watch from the sidelines.
“I spoke with President Tinubu of Nigeria, @officialABAT. I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North. At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations. We call on all our partners to step up their engagement. No one can remain a spectator,” he wrote.
His remarks come at a time when global attention is shifting again to Nigeria’s internal security pressures, following recent comments by United States President Donald Trump alleging growing attacks on Christian communities across the country. Trump had claimed that violence targeting Christians was escalating and argued that the situation was becoming more concerning compared with global patterns.
Only weeks earlier, the U.S. president posted on his Truth Social platform that he had instructed the American War Department to prepare for possible action in Nigeria, accusing the Nigerian government of not protecting vulnerable populations.
