Governor Oyebanji To Inaugurate Commissioners, Special Advisers

Preparations have reached the final stage in Ekiti State as Governor Biodun Oyebanji gets set to formally swear in the newly reappointed commissioners and special advisers on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

According to a statement released in Ado Ekiti by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Olayinka Oyebode, the ceremony will hold at Jibowu Hall inside the Government House premises by 4.00pm.

Earlier last week, the Governor transmitted a list of 18 returning commissioners to the Ekiti State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation. The nominees include Prof Bolaji Aluko, Rt. Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun, Mr Akintunde Oyebode, Mr Ajobiewe Kolawole, Chief Folorunso Olabode, Otunba Dolamu Adeniyi, Rt. Hon Karounwi Oladapo, Mrs Peju Babafemi and Mr Atibioke Ojo Olaiya. Also listed are Chief (Mrs) Tosin Aluko, Mr Awe Abimbola Olufemi, Prof Patrick Tedela, Mr Seun Fakuade, Mr Adedayo Gold Adesola, Dr Kareem Makanjuola Akande, Prof Rasaki Ojo Bakare, Hon Kayode Fasae and Hon Femi Ajayi.

In addition to the commissioners, Governor Oyebanji has confirmed the appointment of Mr Bunmi Talabi as a Special Adviser. Before this elevation, Talabi served as Senior Special Assistant on Special Projects.

Meanwhile, the set of special advisers earlier affected by the cabinet dissolution has been reinstated and will take their oaths alongside the commissioners. Those returning to the cabinet include Chief Jide Awe, Arch Tope Ogunleye, Hon Gbenga Agbeyo, Hon Yemisi Ayokunle, Mr Gbenga Oloniyo, Mrs Oluremi Babington, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Olaleye, Hon Abiola Olowokere, Mr Akinleye Sunday and Mr Ayeni Odunayo Adeola.

The reinstatement follows the dissolution of the State Executive Council on August 10, 2025, during which a few commissioners and advisers were temporarily retained due to the sensitive nature of their assignments.

Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress later met with the Governor and jointly resolved that recalling the former cabinet members and presenting them to the Assembly for confirmation would serve the state better than bringing in fresh nominees, especially with the governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026.

Their position, according to party leaders, is that replacing the cabinet at this time could create internal tensions and distract from governance and election preparations.
