Governor Oyebanji Emerges APC Consensus Candidate for 2026 Ekiti Governorship Poll
Governor Biodun Oyebanji has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The decision followed the voluntary withdrawal of Mrs Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo, the only other aspirant cleared to contest the party’s primary election.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who said the development prompted the party to adopt the consensus mode for its governorship primary.
Morka explained that Mrs Omolayo, in her withdrawal letter, endorsed Governor Oyebanji as the party’s flag bearer and pledged support for any nomination process approved by the party in line with the Electoral Act 2022 and the APC Constitution.
According to him, the APC has duly notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the change from direct primary to consensus mode through a letter dated October 13, 2025.
The statement said the decision was in compliance with Sections 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act 2022, which provide guidelines for adopting consensus as a mode of nomination.
The APC also released its timetable for the nomination exercise as follows:
- Delegate Congress – Saturday, October 25, 2025
- Delegate Congress Appeal – Sunday, October 26, 2025
- Special Nomination Congress to Ratify the Consensus Candidate – Monday, October 27, 2025
The party commended Mrs Omolayo for her “exemplary spirit of sportsmanship and loyalty to the collective interest of the party.”
It also urged all members, leaders, and stakeholders of the party in Ekiti State to remain united and work together for APC’s victory in the June 2026 Governorship Election.
