Governor Oyebanji Approves N596m Car, Housing Loans for Ekiti Teachers

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the release of N596.6 million as car and housing loans to 807 teaching and non-teaching staff across public secondary schools in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Michael Boluwade, who announced this in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, said the gesture is part of the administration’s drive to enhance workers’ welfare and raise morale in the education sector.
According to him, N381.5 million has been allocated for car loans to 382 beneficiaries, while another N215.1 million will go to 425 staff as housing loans. He explained that the disbursement is in line with the 100 per cent loan rate increase earlier approved by the governor.
Boluwade commended Governor Oyebanji for releasing additional funds to strengthen the Loans Board’s revolving fund, which made the new tranche of payments possible. He, however, urged beneficiaries to deploy the funds strictly for the intended purposes, reminding them that repayment would be deducted directly from their salaries.
The development builds on Governor Oyebanji’s earlier pledge to prioritize workers’ welfare. During the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration, the governor highlighted several interventions, including a N400 million housing and vehicle loan package for over 1,400 teaching and non-teaching staff, recruitment of 930 subject teachers, employment of 1,500 primary school teachers and 48 education officers, as well as the approval of career progression for primary school teachers up to grade level 16.
He also listed infrastructure upgrades, capacity-building programmes, and the approval and payment of the national minimum wage as part of his administration’s labour-friendly policies.
