Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes Sets New 2025 Box Office Opening Record

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has made history once again at the box office, as her latest movie, Behind The Scenes, recorded the highest opening weekend earnings of 2025, grossing over N200 million within days of its cinema release, according to FilmOne Entertainment, the movie’s distributor.

The milestone further confirms Akindele’s growing influence in Nigeria’s film industry, reinforcing her reputation as one of the most commercially successful producers in Nollywood.

FilmOne Entertainment, the distributor of the movie, confirmed the achievement in a statement, disclosing that Behind The Scenes broke five separate opening weekend records. According to the distributor, the film became the first Nollywood title in 2025 to cross the N200 million mark within its debut weekend.

In a message shared on its official platforms, FilmOne praised Akindele’s consistency at the cinemas and expressed appreciation to movie lovers across the country for their massive turnout and support.

Industry observers attributed the strong performance of the film to the heavy anticipation it generated ahead of its release, particularly through its advanced screenings held on December 10 and 11, which boosted audience interest before its nationwide cinema debut on December 12.

Behind The Scenes features a strong cast of popular Nollywood actors, including Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre and Uche Montana, among others.

The film’s success comes shortly after Akindele’s previous record breaking project, Everybody Loves Jenifa, which posted the biggest opening weekend in Nollywood history and later became the highest grossing Nigerian movie of all time. The film earned over N1.8 billion at the local box office, in addition to revenue from international screenings.

Before then, Akindele’s A Tribe Called Judah had also held the opening weekend record after debuting with N113 million, a milestone that was later surpassed by her subsequent productions.

With Behind The Scenes already setting the pace for 2025, Funke Akindele has once again strengthened her reputation as Nollywood’s most consistent box office draw, reinforcing her position as one of the industry’s most influential figures.
