The Secretary to the Ekiti State Government (SSG), Professor Habibat Adubiaro, marked her 60th birthday in a touching and memorable way by spending the day with children at the Therapy Centre for Children with Disabilities, Oke-Oriomi, Ado-Ekiti.

Arriving at the centre with her husband, children, and staff of the Office of the SSG, Adubiaro shared moments of joy with the children and presented them with various donations, including food items, toiletries, instructional materials, and stationery. Her visit brought smiles to the faces of the children and staff members, who welcomed her warmly.

While addressing the gathering, Professor Adubiaro said her decision to celebrate with children with disabilities was intentional. She explained that instead of holding an elaborate party, she preferred to invest her resources in improving the lives of people who truly need support.

“I see today that I clocked 60 years as a special day in my life. I just thought of visiting the children with disabilities instead of lavishing money and throwing big party. I just put resources together and thought of giving them the gifts that I believed will go a long way in adding value to their lives,” she said.

The SSG revealed that she had always maintained close ties with special schools, especially the School for the Blind in Ikere-Ekiti, and that she decided to extend her charitable outreach to the Therapy Centre this year in commemoration of her 60th birthday.

She also noted that her choice of venue was motivated by the compassionate example of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who she said regularly celebrates his birthday with people living with disabilities. According to her, the governor’s leadership has inspired a culture of inclusion across the state.

Adubiaro lauded the Oyebanji administration for creating the Department of Special Education and Social Inclusion, describing it as a major step in advancing opportunities for persons with disabilities in Ekiti State.

Encouraging others to emulate the act, the SSG advised that birthdays should be used as opportunities to touch lives positively rather than for extravagant social gatherings. She added that spending time with children and the less privileged offers a deeper sense of fulfillment.

She further expressed happiness over the progress recorded by some of the children at the centre and commended Governor Oyebanji for sustaining programmes that support children with special needs in the state.

In a goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Department, Mrs. Kayode Ojo, praised the SSG for her compassion and humility. She said Adubiaro’s decision to celebrate her birthday with special children reflects genuine empathy and alignment with the governor’s inclusive leadership style.

The Director of the Therapy Centre for Children with Disabilities, Mrs. Amogbonjaiye Bola Felicia, who received the SSG and her entourage, thanked her for the visit and donations. She described the gesture as an act of true kindness and humanity, praying for continued blessings for the SSG and her family.
