The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, has assured residents that the state remains in safe hands under the leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO).

The Speaker, in a special Independence Day message marking Nigeria’s 65th anniversary and the 29th anniversary of Ekiti State’s creation, reflected on the state’s journey since its establishment in 1996, expressing gratitude to God for preserving both the land and its people.

In a statement signed by Babajide Agbeyo, Special Adviser on Media, Aribasoye noted that a proper stocktaking would show that Ekiti has recorded significant advancements over the years, adding that democratic governance has brought more good than harm to the state.

“Democracy has been favourable to us in our dear state. Citizens’ freedom, press freedom, and legislative impacts are experiences that should excite us. We may not yet be at our desired destination, but we are moving at a very good speed,” he said.

Aribasoye commended Governor Oyebanji for consolidating the achievements of past administrations while raising the bar of governance. He stressed that the legislature has continued to thrive under the governor’s leadership, pointing to the passage of key laws, resolutions, and oversight activities aimed at protecting the state’s interest.

“While past governments have contributed their quota to the development of the state, the Biodun Oyebanji administration is no doubt building on those gains. The Governor has allowed the legislative institution to work unhindered, leading to the enactment of very important laws and resolutions, coupled with productive oversight to protect Ekiti’s interest,” he added.

Looking ahead to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election later this month, the Speaker expressed confidence in Oyebanji’s chances of securing the party’s ticket, describing continuity as vital to sustaining the state’s current momentum.

He further pledged that the Assembly, under his leadership, would continue to pass laws that protect and advance the interest of Ekiti people.
