Ekiti Speaker Aribasoye Hails Oyebanji’s Monumental Strides in Three Years

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, has commended Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for what he described as monumental achievements across key sectors of the state in the past three years.

Speaking during a special anniversary plenary on Thursday where Governor Oyebanji presented the State of the State Address to mark his third year in office, the Speaker lauded the cordial relationship between the executive and the legislature, saying both arms share a common vision of progress for the people of Ekiti.

According to a statement signed by Mr. Babajide Agbeyo, Special Adviser (Media) to the Speaker, Aribasoye said the sustained synergy between the two arms of government had accelerated legislative backing for the governor’s development agenda.

“Your Excellency, our relationship has been cordial, grounded in mutual respect and a shared vision for Ekiti’s progress. While we uphold the principle of separation of powers, there is no separation of interests. Ours is a partnership for the Ekiti Project, a comprehensive programme to uplift our people and secure a prosperous future,” Aribasoye stated.

The Speaker recalled that at the Assembly’s Special Open Plenary earlier in the year, the people of Ekiti overwhelmingly expressed confidence in Governor Oyebanji’s leadership, adding that the governor’s consistent performance has further strengthened the consensus for continuity beyond 2026.

“Earlier this year, at our special open plenary marking two years in office, the people expressed a desire for a renewed social contract , one that extends beyond 2026 and broadens the horizon for Ekiti’s progress. This is not a declaration of inevitability, but a testament to a rising consensus among our citizens,” he noted.

Aribasoye assured that both the 2026 Budget and the 2025 Supplementary Appropriation Bill currently before the House would receive timely and thorough consideration. He pledged that the Assembly would continue to give priority to bills that promote economic recovery, job creation, and social protection, while intensifying oversight of capital projects to ensure compliance with standards.

Other lawmakers also took turns to commend the governor for his remarkable performance, particularly for sustaining mutual respect between the executive and legislative arms and for his people-focused governance style.

During the session, the Speaker read a letter from Hon. Oladele Ogunsakin announcing his resignation from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his address, Governor Oyebanji expressed appreciation to the Assembly for its partnership and progress-driven collaboration, especially in the prompt screening of nominees and the passage of key legislative proposals that have strengthened governance in the state.

The governor outlined major achievements in governance, education, agriculture, health care, and security, noting that proactive measures have been implemented to enhance public safety.

“In response to the threat of kidnappers who lurk in the bushes to launch attacks, we created the Agro-Marshal Corps, which now works with Amotekun and other federal security agencies to ensure wider coverage of both rural and urban areas,” Oyebanji said.

He assured residents that his administration is doing everything possible to prevent insecurity from neighbouring states from affecting Ekiti, adding that security agencies have been well mobilised and modern technologies deployed to forestall any incursion.

The governor further revealed that Ekiti State has secured $1 million in funding to support agricultural cooperatives and promote industrial growth, while the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport has now been certified for full commercial operations, opening new frontiers for economic and aviation-related investments.

One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of a special plaque and framed portrait to the governor by members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) in recognition of his outstanding leadership and faithful fulfillment of his mandate.
