The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, has bagged two awards of excellence in recognition of his notable contributions to youth and students’ development.
The Speaker was, on Wednesday, honoured by the Students Union Government of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), Ikere Ekiti, for his active support of the student community.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media, Babajide Agbeyo, the Students Senate Council award, presented by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victor Adeoluwa, was handed to the Speaker at the 4th Legislative Summit of the institution and received on his behalf by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Olamide Aribisala.
Delivering his address through the representative, Aribasoye highlighted the productive legislative outcomes of the 7th Ekiti Assembly and assured that the House would continue to support visions around education and youth development.
“In Ekiti State, we understand the central role of the legislature in driving development. The 7th Assembly, which I have the privilege to lead, has passed over 45 bills and more than 60 resolutions within two years, covering education, youth empowerment, healthcare, and infrastructure. Each of these legislative actions is targeted at improving lives and creating opportunities for our people, particularly the youth.
“As Speaker, I reaffirm the commitment of the Ekiti State House of Assembly to continuously support educational development and youth engagement. We will remain open to partnerships with student bodies, not only to strengthen governance on campus, but also to nurture the next generation of leaders who will take our state and our nation to greater heights,” he said.
Aribasoye further advised the students:
“For you, as student legislators, your responsibility is to ensure that the voices of your colleagues are heard, that accountability remains your guiding principle, and that service to your community takes precedence over personal interest. The discipline, courage, and vision you develop here will prepare you for greater responsibilities beyond the walls of this university.”
The event, themed “Strengthening Students Governance: The Legislature as a Catalyst for Development,” had in attendance lawmakers from the State House of Assembly, government officials, university stakeholders, and the students’ community, among others.
In a similar vein, the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), Ekiti State Chapter, recently honoured the Speaker with an Award of Recognition for his outstanding leadership, exceptional service, and undying passion for youth development.
The leadership of the Congress noted that the award was well justified, considering the applaudable legislative strides of Aribasoye, which have elevated the Ekiti Assembly to an award winning status, coupled with his sustained support for youth related affairs.
Responding at a separate session, Speaker Aribasoye described the recent honours bestowed on him as an affirmation of his long standing commitment to advancing the cause of youth and students, a passion he has nurtured since his university days.
The lawmaker, who once led Ekiti State University as a Students Union President, encouraged young people to invest in academic progress and productive skill acquisition, adding that the time has come for youths to realise their positive visions for Nigeria by responsibly participating in politics.
