Ekiti Govt Approves Over N9.8bn for Roads, Power Projects, Innovation Hub

The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved a series of major projects cutting across road construction, electricity expansion and digital innovation during its 12th meeting held via Zoom on Tuesday.

In a statement signed by Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, Special Adviser (Information), the Council said the approvals reflect the Oyebanji administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure, boosting productivity and strengthening public services across the state.

One of the key decisions was the approval of N7.72 billion for the reconstruction of the road network around the new flyover bridge in Ado-Ekiti. The project is expected to ease traffic flow and improve access within the Old Garage corridor and adjoining communities. Roads listed for rehabilitation include Mathew Road, Ijigbo–Ojido–Odo Ado axis, Mugbagba, Ojumose/Post Office–Ewi Palace Road and Atikankan–Baptist Church Road. The contract was awarded to Step Development Limited and will be completed within 12 months.

The Council also approved N1.06 billion for electricity extension and installation of transformers in underserved and unserved communities across the state. Benefiting areas include Ise, Orun, Fiwasaye, Oke-Ureje, Itamo, Judges Quarters, Old Technical College–Ajilosun axis, Iwaro, Marina, Omisanjana, Okemesi and parts of Iyin Ekiti. The projects, to be executed by the Ekiti State Electricity Board through direct labour, have a delivery timeline of three months.

Another major approval was the release of N1.06 billion for the construction of a permanent structure for the Ekiti Start-up Garage under the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Digital Economy. The innovation hub supported with equipment by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is expected to serve as a centre for mentorship, incubation, tech development, and youth-driven economic empowerment. The contract, awarded to Kelvinkay Global Nigeria Limited, is expected to be completed within 12 weeks.

The Executive Council further endorsed the presentation of the Ekiti State Revenue Administration Bill 2025 to the House of Assembly. The proposed law seeks to strengthen tax administration, revenue collection and enforcement through the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS). When passed, it will regulate assessments, collections, remittances, investigations and approvals relating to state and local government revenues.

In another development, the Council approved the presentation of the eight toolkits, the Investment Approval Process and the implementation plan for the Framework for Responsible and Inclusive Land-Intensive Agriculture (FRILIA) to the House of Assembly. These documents developed under a World Bank-NGF programme are key requirements for Ekiti State to access a $4.5 million disbursement in 2025. The framework aims to strengthen land administration for agricultural investment, ensure transparency, and protect community rights in line with global standards.

According to the statement, the approvals collectively align with the state government’s plan to enhance ease of doing business, promote inclusive development and position Ekiti as a hub for innovation and agro-investment.
