Ekiti APC Gov Primary: Ogungbemi Hails Oyebanji’s Emergence as Consensus Candidate

The Chairman of Ajoni Local Council Development Area, Amb. Prince Michael Ogungbemi, has congratulated Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his emergence as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Ogungbemi, in a statement issued in Ayedun-Ekiti by the Council’s Director of Information, Prince Adeola Alex Fafure, described the development as a welcome step that would strengthen party unity and consolidate the achievements of the Oyebanji administration.

He commended Mrs Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo for withdrawing from the race, describing her action as a show of loyalty and political maturity.

“There is no sacrifice that is too much to make for the APC to remain solid and for Ekiti to progress under Governor Oyebanji’s purposeful leadership,” Ogungbemi said.

The council chairman expressed confidence that the APC would achieve a landslide victory in the 2026 poll, citing the governor’s performance, popularity, and the party’s strong grassroots structure as major strengths.

He said Oyebanji’s re-nomination reflected “divine favour and political wisdom,” adding that the governor had “performed creditably well” since assuming office.

On the disqualification of Engr. Kayode Ojo, another APC aspirant, Ogungbemi said the decision was based on party discipline and constitutional compliance, not political bias.

“The doctrine of party supremacy is at play here. Electoral contests begin with party discipline,” he stated.

He alleged that Ojo’s nomination process was fraught with irregularities and that his campaign had consistently undermined APC-led programmes in the state, actions he described as inconsistent with party loyalty.

Ogungbemi commended the National Working Committee (NWC) for maintaining order within the party and urged members to rally behind Governor Oyebanji ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
