Ekiti 7th Assembly restates commitment to state’s development

…as Speaker Aribasoye pledges preservation of old Assembly Chamber

The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, has reaffirmed the commitment of the 7th Assembly to the overall development of the state, promising to preserve the old Assembly Chamber as part of the legislature’s institutional heritage.

Aribasoye disclosed this during the Assembly’s monthly prayer session for October, held at the old chamber in Ado-Ekiti.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Information Services at the Assembly, Mr. Olasunkanmi Ekundayo, on Monday, the Speaker said the chamber would be preserved as a historical site that reflects legislative continuity and institutional memory.

He said photographs of past lawmakers would be displayed within the chamber to honour them as “legislative ancestors.”

The Speaker congratulated the staff, people of Ekiti State, and Nigerians on the country’s 65th Independence anniversary and the 29th anniversary of Ekiti State’s creation, expressing delight at being part of the nation’s history.

Aribasoye also announced that the House would, this week, receive Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill, as lawmakers resume from their annual recess.

He further commended the state government for approving the 2024/2025 staff promotion exercise, describing Governor Oyebanji as a visionary and worker-friendly leader deserving of support for continuity in office.

The Speaker urged the Chairman of the Assembly Service Commission, Hon. Kayode Fasakin, and his team to expedite the implementation of the promotion exercise as approved by the governor.

He also informed staff of the forthcoming retirement of the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Titilope Agbede, whom he described as a resourceful and committed administrator who has served both the political and bureaucratic arms of the legislature with distinction.

In her response, Mrs. Agbede expressed gratitude to the Speaker and the Assembly Commission for their support, urging staff to remain committed and united in service.

Earlier, the Muslim and Christian clerics at the session, Alfa Kazeem and Pastor Segun Ajigbena, preached on the fear of God and obedience to His word as keys to lasting reward.

In commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary and October birthdays, cash gifts were presented to celebrants, while a cake-cutting ceremony and prayers rounded off the event.
