Female Aspirant Declares Support for Oyebanji, Vows to Break Ekiti Jinx

One of the aspirants in the Ekiti State governorship race, Omolayo Oluremi, has expressed willingness to step aside for Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.
Oluremi, who spoke in Abuja shortly after being screened by the APC Governorship Screening Committee, described Oyebanji as her political leader. However, she maintained her ambition to become the first woman to govern the state.
“I will only step down for the governor, His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji. Any other person, no way,” she declared.
“Since the creation of Ekiti State, there has never been a female governor. I want to be the first, and by the grace of God, it will come to pass,” she added.
The aspirant emphasized that women bring unique perspectives to leadership and called on Nigerian women to take more active roles in politics. According to her, women remain central to electoral victories and deserve a stronger voice in governance.
The APC screening exercise, which began on Tuesday in Abuja, featured four aspirants: Governor Oyebanji, Kayode Ojo, Abimbola Olawunmi, and Omolayo Oluremi. The party’s governorship primary has been scheduled for October 27 ahead of the July 20, 2026 election.
