Oyebanji to FRSC: Engage Commercial Drivers Regularly, Cut Road Accidents in Ekiti

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has urged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to step up regular engagement with commercial drivers and transport operators as part of efforts to reduce road accidents in the state.
The governor gave the charge on Tuesday while receiving the new FRSC Sector Commander in Ekiti, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, at the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti.
Oyebanji, who expressed satisfaction with the agency’s activities, stressed that most accidents on Ekiti roads are avoidable if motorists and motorcyclists are properly sensitized. He called for structured, consistent meetings with transport unions, tricycle riders, and motorcycle operators to improve compliance with safety regulations.
“First, let me commend your level of professionalism. I have listened to your challenges and with respect to vehicles and ambulance service. We are partners in progress, whatever support we can give to your agency, we will do that. You are very serious-minded agency and you know what you are doing; we will continue to support you”, the Governor said.
The governor also emphasized the need for proper documentation of motorcycle operators across the state, noting its role in both accident prevention and crime control. He commended the FRSC for improving traffic flow in Ado-Ekiti and welcomed the corps’ input on road signage and safety enforcement.
News Alert reports that earlier in the meeting, Corps Commander Adeoye applauded Governor Oyebanji’s investment in road infrastructure across all three senatorial districts, which he said had significantly reduced accident rates. He disclosed that FRSC commands in the state had grown from three to 13, but appealed for more vehicles and ambulances to strengthen emergency operations.
Governor Oyebanji assured that his administration would continue to support the FRSC as a strategic partner in safeguarding lives and ensuring safer roads across Ekiti State.
