Multiple explosions occurred on Wednesday evening in Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, causing significant concern among residents and damage to property in several locations across the town.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the explosions were reported at approximately 6:30 p.m. in three separate areas of Auchi. The first blast occurred along Igbei Road, the second at the Igbo Shade area near an AP filling station, and the third along Auchi-Okene Road near Winners Junction.
Several properties, including shops and residential buildings, were damaged, although as of the time of reporting, there has been no official confirmation of casualties or injuries.
An eyewitness who spoke to NAN on condition of anonymity stated that the explosions occurred almost simultaneously, causing confusion among residents and prompting calls for a thorough investigation to prevent future incidents.
NAN further gathered that a fuel tanker had earlier fallen along the expressway, spilling petrol into nearby areas. Authorities quickly intervened to secure the scene and prevent further risk.
A credible source at the Auchi Divisional Police Station told NAN that the spilled fuel may have ignited, resulting in explosions at different points. Security personnel promptly cordoned off the affected areas to ensure public safety and restore order.
Police authorities are expected to release an official statement as investigations continue to determine the exact cause of the explosions.
