Tinubu Sends Fresh Ambassadorial List to Senate for Approval

The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has submitted a new batch of non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, signalling another step in filling key diplomatic positions across the world.
The list, read on Thursday during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, features several notable figures, including former Rivers administrator Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, ex-senator Ita Enang, former Imo First Lady Chioma Ohakim, and former Minister of Interior and retired Chief of Army Staff Abdulrahman Dambazau.
The latest nominations come just days after Tinubu put forward another set of candidates, including Reno Omokri and Mahmoud Yakubu, for ambassadorial postings.
Tinubu, in his letter to the lawmakers, urged the Senate to give the list accelerated consideration, stressing that the appointments are vital to enabling the federal government fill critical foreign missions.
After reading the correspondence, Akpabio referred the nominees to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and directed the panel to conduct the screening exercise and submit its report within one week.
The Senate is expected to begin the confirmation process immediately as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic representation globally.
