FULL LIST: Army Promotes 105 Brigadier Generals, Colonels

A new wave of senior leadership changes swept through the Nigerian Army on Friday as the high command approved the elevation of one hundred and five officers in a broad reorganisation meant to sharpen operational leadership across the force.

Fresh details from the Army’s official X platform showed that twenty eight Brigadier Generals moved up to the rank of Major General while seventy seven Colonels were also promoted to Brigadier General, marking one of the largest promotion rounds in recent years.

Among the new Major Generals are Brigadier General O Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency, Brigadier General SM Uba who serves as Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General RE Hedima, the Acting Chief of Military Intelligence, and Brigadier General RT Utsaha, Deputy Director of Defence Operations.

Another set of senior officers elevated includes Brigadier General AM Umar, Commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy, Brigadier General S Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary, Brigadier General IO Bassey who heads the Nigerian Army Operations Centre, and Brigadier General CA Ekeator of the Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

Additional promotions touched Brigadier General SY Yakasai, Acting Director of Procurement in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff, Brigadier General WL Nzidee of the logistics department, Brigadier General SA Emmanuel from the Nigerian Army Signals, Brigadier General SS Tilawan, Acting Commander of Sector 3 under Operation Hadin Kai, Brigadier General MO Agi from the TETFUND desk at the Defence Academy, and Brigadier General IM Abbas, Commander of 34 Brigade.

One of the promoted officers, Brigadier General ZA Saidu, was honoured posthumously in recognition of his service and contributions to the army.

Promotions among Colonels captured officers drawn from strategic formations, including the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, various headquarters departments, Special Forces units, and several military medical facilities.

In his remarks after the announcement, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu congratulated the officers and their families, urging them to match their new ranks with higher dedication and discipline as the army pushes through complex security challenges.

He noted that the newly promoted officers must set the example in conduct, inspire the ranks under them, and embrace innovative approaches as Nigeria’s security environment continues to evolve rapidly.

Shaibu also reminded the officers of their duty to remain loyal to the Constitution and maintain unwavering commitment to the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity, insisting that the army’s mandate requires courage, integrity and total professionalism.

With this round of promotions, the Nigerian Army aims to deepen leadership capacity, strengthen command chains and reinforce its readiness to respond more effectively to threats facing the country.
