NELFUND Opens Student Loan Portal for 2025/2026 Academic Session
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the official opening of its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session, offering financial support to students across the country’s tertiary institutions.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the agency’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the application window will open on Thursday, October 23, 2025, and close on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
NELFUND advised fresh students to use their admission numbers or JAMB registration numbers in place of matriculation numbers when applying on the portal.
The agency also appealed to tertiary institutions to show understanding regarding registration and tuition payment deadlines for students awaiting loan approval or disbursement.
“Institutional authorities are encouraged to exercise flexibility in enforcing registration and fee payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement,” the statement read in part.
It added that institutions yet to commence their 2025/2026 academic session should formally notify NELFUND of their approved academic calendars to enable proper scheduling and coordination.
The Fund further urged schools to adopt temporary registration measures for applicants whose loan requests are still being processed, stressing that no Nigerian student should be denied access to education because of financial challenges.
