World Teachers’ Day: Group Commends Oyebanji for Prioritising Ekiti Teachers’ Welfare

A foremost grassroots mobilisation group in Ekiti State, Oyebanji Street Vanguard (OSV), has commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his consistent prioritisation of teachers’ welfare and transformative initiatives in the state’s education sector.

The group gave the commendation in a statement issued on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti in reaction to the Governor’s recognition of teachers during the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration, where he presented cheques worth ₦46 million to outstanding educators.

According to the statement, the Governor’s numerous interventions, including the sustenance of free and compulsory education, renovation of schools across the state, and employment of 1,500 primary school teachers and 2,500 secondary school teachers, reflect his unwavering commitment to education and human capital development.

The group also lauded Oyebanji’s approval of career progression for graduate teachers, upward review of gratuities for retired educators, and the appointment of retired teachers into political offices all of which, it said, demonstrate respect for the teaching profession.

It noted that the Governor’s extension of teachers’ retirement age from 60 to 65 years, and service years from 35 to 40 years, further underscored his people-centred leadership.

“In commemoration of this year’s World Teachers’ Day, the Governor rewarded outstanding teachers with cash gifts totalling ₦46 million, approved the upward review of Science Teachers and Heads of Department allowances, and cleared the 2019 leave bonus arrears,” the statement read.

The group quoted the Governor as reaffirming his commitment to Ekiti workers, saying: “It will always get better. I am resolutely committed to my pact with you and all Ekiti workers.”

The OSV urged teachers and the state workforce to continue supporting the administration in its drive for continuity, stability, and progress, noting that the Governor’s passion for education stemmed from his background as the son of a teacher and husband of one.

“Governor Oyebanji has shown through words and actions that the welfare of teachers and workers remains his top priority,” the statement added.

The group also appreciated all Ekiti teachers for their dedication to service, describing them as “the foundation upon which the state’s future continues to rise.”
