Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Resumes Senate Plenary After Six-Month Suspension

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, is set to officially return to plenary today (Tuesday) after serving her six-month suspension from the National Assembly.

Her lawyer, Barr. Victor Giwa, confirmed the development in an interview, assuring that the embattled lawmaker will resume alongside other senators when plenary reconvenes.

The Senate had earlier postponed its resumption from September 23 to October 7, 2025, extending its annual recess by two weeks, a move that delayed discussions on several pending national matters.

‘She Has Served Her Term’ – Lawyer

Giwa stated that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had fully served her suspension and should face no further hindrance in returning to her duties.

“To me, our client should just go straight and resume on Tuesday. Anything else they say is just an opinion,” he said.

The lawyer also warned the Senate leadership against any attempt to block her entry into the chamber, emphasizing that such action would be unconstitutional.

Suspension and Controversy

The Kogi lawmaker’s ordeal began on March 6, 2025, when she was suspended for alleged misconduct following her protest against the reassignment of her seat by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on February 20.

Her suspension barred her from participating in all activities of the 10th Senate and led to the locking of her office at the National Assembly complex.

Although the suspension officially expired in September 2025, legal disputes and leadership resistance prevented her earlier return.

‘No Apology to Tender’ – Natasha

Despite months of tension, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has maintained her defiance, insisting she owes no apology for standing her ground.

She reportedly told associates that she was ready to resume legislative duties and focus on representing her constituents, stressing that “the worst is over.”

Efforts to obtain comments from the Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, and the media aide to the Senate President were unsuccessful.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made history as Kogi Central’s first elected female senator in 2023.

Her tenure has been marked by high-profile activism and confrontations within the Senate, earning her both strong supporters and critics.
