2027: ADC Urges Peter Obi To Clarify His Political Direction

Fresh pressure is building within the African Democratic Congress as the party has asked former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to clearly state whether he intends to join the ADC-led coalition or remain outside it.
Rising from recent concerns raised by Obi over zoning and rotation of offices, the party said the decision on joining rests solely with the former Anambra State governor and would not be influenced by his popularity.
Speaking on the matter, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi explained that the coalition is still in its early formation stage and cannot be dragged into zoning debates when its core focus is convincing Nigerians that it represents a real political alternative.
According to Abdullahi, the issues raised by Obi about the structure of the coalition were premature, insisting that the movement must first agree on a clear direction before discussing where candidates will come from. He noted that if zoning becomes Obi’s key condition, then such discussions will have to wait until the coalition gets to that level.
The party chieftain also encouraged Obi to decide on his political alignment ahead of the 2027 general election so that the coalition can know where he stands. He stressed that the party values Obi’s influence, but its long-term agenda cannot be shaped solely by individual interests.
Responding to Obi’s earlier remark that the coalition appeared unstable, Abdullahi countered that the platform remains solid and has made remarkable progress in a short period. He pointed out that the coalition now has structures in almost 28 states despite not holding any elective political position.
Looking forward, the ADC spokesperson urged Obi to play a more active role in strengthening party structures, particularly in Anambra State, if he truly believes in building a new political order. He maintained that the door remains open to Obi but added that the coalition must continue its work whether he joins or not.
