16 Universities Fail to Meet JAMB Deadline on Underage Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that 16 universities in Nigeria failed to meet its September 15, 2025 deadline for submitting post-UTME results of underage candidates.

According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, out of the 41,027 underage candidates who wrote the 2025 UTME, only about 500 scaled through screening.

Fresh data shows that 40 affected applicants are spread across institutions such as:

University of Calabar (6)

Abia State University (1 candidate)

Bayelsa Medical University (1)

Bingham University, Karu (3)

Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi (1)

Federal University, Lokoja (2)

Kwara State University (4)

Lead City University (2)

Madonna University (1)

McPherson University (2)

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (1)

Modibbo Adama University (1)

Rhema University (1)

TopFaith University (1)

University of Abuja (12)

Meanwhile, four universities, Air Force Institute of Technology, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, UNIJOS and Osun State University have categorically rejected admitting underage candidates.

JAMB insists only students with UTME 320+, 80% post-UTME, and 80% WAEC/NECO scores will be considered.

This policy shift follows growing pressure from parents and stakeholders demanding fairness for high-performing students.
